Scottish War Blinded supports visually impaired ex-servicemen and women in adapting to life after sight loss. The charity helps all veterans living in Scotland, irrespective of the cause of their sight loss. The majority of veterans who receive individually tailored support have age or medical related sight loss, for example, macular degeneration or cataracts.
Veterans do not need to registered blind to be eligible for our free support, and we support veterans from a variety of backgrounds including national services, the reserves and women, including those who did not see conflict.
Our aim is to enable veterans to live as independently as possible and to get the most out of life after sight loss. Our life long free support is tailored to the individual concerns of our membership, and can include:
- Practical and financial support to gain a suitable home
- Training to adopt simple strategies and skills to cope with sight loss
- Participating in social opportunities with people with similar experiences.
